Types of Yoga
FLOW
Each teacher will guide you through a flow unique to the students present and the teacher's own style. These classes will offer modifications for anyone from beginning yogis to the more seasoned student.
YIN
Yin yoga works on the Yin tissues – also known as the connective tissues. Connective tissue responds best to a slow, steady load. If you gently stretch connective tissue by holding a Yin pose for a long time, the body will respond by making them a little longer and more resillient.
KATONAH®
KATONAH YOGA® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan of Katonah Yoga Center over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being. Yoga Union teachers have adapted this practice to flow and complement your current classes.
SLOW FLOW
A slower paced Vinyasa class that will support your nervous system so that you can feel grounded and centered. Beginners encouraged to attend!
RESTORATIVE
Restorative Yoga encourages deep relaxation by holding poses for longer periods of time with the help of props to completely support you. The idea behind Restorative Yoga is, by relaxing in poses, with the aid of props, without strain or pain, we can achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation.
ROCKET®
ROCKET YOGA® is a playful modification of the traditional Ashtanga practice, developed by Larry Schultz. While postures will be familiar to those who practice Vinyasa Yoga, they are arranged in a specific sequence allowing you to determine your own path and bend the "rules" as you need. Though every class will follow a familiar sequence, each class is tailored to the general ability level of the students present. Knowledge of Surya Namaskar A&B (Sun Salutions) is helpful for this class.
PILATES
Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility, muscular strength, and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.
HATHA
This is classic yoga. No fast flows or 1000 vinyasa. A perfect place to start if you are new to yoga but looking for a strong physical practice. Sequences will be familiar to those who have practiced Ashtanga Primary Series or Hot 26+2.
